Homer’s to expand opening hours
The new-look Homer’s Café at the Masterworks art gallery is set to become a seven-day operation.
The café, attached to the gallery in the Botanic Gardens, has a new supplier and aims to expand its hours from six days a week to seven from August and through the winter months.
Homer’s, supplied by the Portuguese Bakery for several years, now has a new coffee machine and food and baked goods supplied by the Buzz chain of restaurants, under the direction of returned chef Sonia Robinson and Andria Francis.
Ms Robinson said: “Most of the food we serve is fresh to order. I’ve always loved the idea of being able to work in the open with customers. People love it and they are very responsive to a big smile.”
The café closed briefly in February and reopened in March as the changeover took place.
It is at present open from 9am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays.
Along with hot and cold sandwiches, which all come with a fresh salad, the menu also includes a daily soup, quiche and salads.
The café also offers a selection of baked goods as a perfect complement to the coffee, made with new equipment described as “the Cadillac of espresso machines”.
Tom Butterfield, Masterworks founder and creative director, said: “Homer’s Café is a great little oasis for people visiting Masterworks and Botanical Gardens,
“Chef Sonia is back running the café and many of our customers are coming back as much for her as for the great cuisine.”
Food can be eaten in the main café upstairs or in the courtyard, as well as in the downstairs lounge-style area, which also features children’s activities.
The café, which is accessible by ramps and an elevator, also features a regularly changed display of work by local artists for sale.
