A technology store has expanded and is now providing customers with more than they bargained for.

The Hub on Middle Road, Warwick, has been around for more than a decade and has been recognised for friendly customer service and competitive prices.

Gavin Kennedy, owner of the Hub, said he fell into the business by buying his nephew a flash drive.

“I ordered about ten flash drives for my nephew and him and his friends loved them, then other people started to ask about phone cases.” he said.

“Once I moved from selling cases, I moved on to BlackBerry phones when they were new — now we sell Samsung and iPhones,” he added.

The business offers other services such as fixing and restoring phones.

“We make sure every customer is completely happy. The phones are already unlocked and sold with a case.”

He added that the store offers a low-price guarantee.

“If you find a phone anywhere else on the island unlocked and off contract we will match it and offer it for a lower price,” Mr Kennedy said.

Not only does The Hub sell phones, phone cases, accessories, chargers, and many more items, but it is now renting out space to other vendors, selling anything such as clothes, shades, bathing suits and more, in the company’s new expanded space.

They also rented space to The MoneyShop, located next door to the store.

Mr Kennedy said: “We give vendors the opportunity to sell their merchandise. Some of them used the Hub as a stepping stone and went on to start their own store.”

The Hub is open seven days a week and the owners of tenant vendors do not need to be there to make sales. And The Hub allows them to view their sales online.

“Some people have the right product for this market and they’ve just exploded,” he added. Mr Kennedy talked about the new brand they have called the Bermuda Onion, comprising shirts and mobile phone cases designed by Omar Smith.

When asked what makes his business stand out is he said his staff. “We pride ourselves on our customer service and we aim to uphold our reputation,” Mr Kennedy said.

The Hub has five staff members in total.

De-Andre Smith-Lightbourne, the assistant manager, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for me because I want to be a computer technician, and Mr Kennedy gave me this opportunity when I started looking for a job.

“I am very good at customer service and helping people. It makes me feel good doing things for people.”

All of the staff seem to enjoy working at The Hub and all had good things to say.

Another employee, Taffori Burch, said: “ I feel good working here, it’s a pretty good experience. Not only do we have to learn about technology and the latest gadgets but we get to give good customer service and help satisfy customers’ needs.”

Anthony Amyoony, store manager, cheerfully said: “ I feel absolutely fantastic everyday working here, the satisfaction, helping somebody that actually needs your help is one of best feelings.”
