Minibus service reaps rewards of research

Transport business: Nijae Burgess, founder of My Bermuda Lyft

Minibus service My Bermuda Lyft has moved up the gears since opening up last summer.

The firm was launched by Nijae Burgess, a full-time engineer, who decided at the age of 28 he wanted to start a business to invest in for the future.

Mr Burgess started to research and compare the number of tourist arriving Bermuda by aeroplanes and cruise ships.

“I saw a niche in the market and decided to do my research,” he said.

“I noticed that there was a decrease in aircraft arrivals and increase in cruise ship arrivals.”

That is when he offered island tours to cruise ship passengers, and pick-up and drop-off services as well, as well as airport transfers, corporate services and special events.

He said: “I saw a lack of transport from them to various spots on the island and a lack of busses so what I wanted to do was get in early and start myself from there.”

Although My Bermuda Lyft caters to visitors during the busy season, during off-season, its services are more geared towards locals.

Offering bus hire for corporate events, parties and school field trips, Mr Burgess said the company always aims to keep customers happy and offer local rates for Bermudians.

Being so young and having experienced success with his first business, he encourages more locals to do research before jumping into an enterprise.

He said: “Usually you will hear someone say ‘follow your dreams’, but I would say before you do that do your homework and get to know what you’re getting into before you jump in.”

My Bermuda Lyft has no set hours and hires are available by appointment. For more information you can visit the website http://mybdalyft.com
