A local man was inspired by his daughter’s music which pushed him to follow his dreams and turn his own passions into a business.

Dion Burgess was born with a love for music and says its has always been apart of him. He started mixing and creating beats when he was a teenager.

“I took part in a contest where I became the second runner-up. I also had some songs played on the radio and beats I created back then,” said Mr Burgess.

Life got in the way and his passion subsided for almost 20 years.

“My passion for music was reignited when, a few years ago, I heard a song my daughter created.”

It was then he returned to mixing music for fun, before deciding to create a platform where he could turn his passion into a business venture.

“A lot has changed nowadays. When I mixed back in the day, I had equipment such as analogues and keyboards, now everything is digital which makes it much easier and convenient,” he said.

He has over 50 beats on his website available for lease or purchase.

“If an artist leases the beats, then they will be prompted to sign a contract and have limitations on what they can do with the beats. If they decide to buy it will be theirs and no other artist will have it, as I will remove it from online.”

He can also customise beats for anyone who has a preference.

The website is called beatwonder.com, and Mr Burgess believes this may be the first “beats” site in Bermuda that offers the ability to purchase beats.

“I haven’t heard of any other website locally. There may be more, but myself and my peers have not heard of them.”

He creates beats for music genres including, R&B, reggae, gospel and trap music.

His purpose is to reach musicians and artist locally and hopefully in the future work on creating music for them.
