Bermudian-based internet service provider Bluewave has won an award for “connecting the unconnected” at the inaugural Canto Innovation Awards.

The company and Mimosa Networks, its fixed wireless solutions partner, collected the accolade at an awards event hosted by Canto, a telecommunications and ICT association in the Caribbean region and Americas.

Bluewave, which is described as a product of TeleBermuda International, was launched last year. It provides wi-fi-based high-speed internet to residents and businesses on the island, and is owned by East End Group Ltd and Celeritas Ltd.

It uses Mimosa technology for its network, which utilises long-range transmission towers.

Nick Faries, chief executive officer of Bluewave, said: “Bluewave is honoured that our effort to bring reliable, high-speed internet to residents and businesses in Bermuda has been recognised by Canto 2018.

“Partnering with Mimosa has enabled us to usher in much needed competition, system reliability and value for money that is benefiting the Bermudian community. We hope that our business and network model will inspire other islands to overcome their connectivity challenges, so they may be able to leverage the numerous benefits associated with wireless technology.”

Trade association Canto was founded in 1985 and now has more than 125 members in 35 countries.
