Employee given cruise gift by grateful boss
A longstanding Double Dip Express employee has been rewarded with an expenses-paid holiday by her employer.
Elsie Mascarenhas has been a part of the popular ice cream business since opening in St David’s almost two decades ago.
“Words can’t express the gratitude I have for Elsie, she has been loyal to me since she was employed 17 years ago with Double Dip,” Doris Brooks, owner of Double Dip Express, said. “She has been with me through thick and thin and there has been a lot of thick days.”
Ms Brooks recalls a time when she was struggling financially and going through a rough patch.
“I have been though some challenging financial times with the business and Elsie was always there to help in any way she could,” she said.
“If something was bothering me on a personal matter, she would pitch in. She offers to me the physical strength to the business that I could not do alone, her willingness to be there on whatever the need may be. In my words, she is outstanding.”
Ms Brooks has been in the ice cream business for 40 years. After trying out several locations, she stumbled on the perfect home in St David’s.
“I have moved from place to place. I took out so much in bank loans for all the previous businesses,” Ms Brooks said. “I admit it was a struggle for me to keep going.
“I still have so many bills due, but I felt in my heart it was the right thing to do. I mean Elsie has been working with me faithfully for 17 years.
“I opened the St David’s location 18 years ago and no matter how hard it is for me financially, I felt like I needed to give back to her and show Elsie how truly grateful I am for her.”
Ms Mascarenhas will enjoy a Disney cruise with her 12-year-old son.
“I am completely grateful!” said Ms Mascarenhas. “Doris has been such a great boss to work with.
“I can honestly say that I have enjoyed working here with her over the years. She will extend her hand for anyone in need, she is a good person.
“I can’t wait to relax and enjoy it. I am truly looking forward to the break!”
