A couple who supply alkaline water through social media platforms now have their product for sale at several retail locations.

Antanisha Davis and Jahmiko Hayward started researching alkaline water before purchasing it for themselves earlier this year.

“I changed my life around a year ago by joining the gym and eating healthy,” Ms Davis said. “I came across the benefits of alkaline water and my partner and I started doing research and ordered a case online.

“After trying out different brands of the water, we decided to go with this brand Ten as the taste is smooth,” said the 27-year-old.

The couple officially started the mobile business, MNM Distributors in April of this year.

Alkaline water has gained popularity over the years and is known for its health benefits as some believe it will not only regulate your body’s PH level but prevent chronic diseases such as cancers.

The “alkaline” in alkaline water refers to its pH level. The pH level is a number that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale of zero to 14. For example, something with a pH of one would be very acidic and something with a pH of 13 would be very alkaline.

Another study suggested that drinking alkaline ionised water may have benefits for people who have high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

Many Bermudians have picked up the knowledge and are gearing towards drinking more alkaline water.

“Some people believe it’s not good to drink a higher pH than our bodies need, but if your body isn’t at least at a 7.4 which most people aren’t it’s OK to elevate,” said Ms Davis.

Ms Davis is looking to expand the business in hopes of eventually moving into a store location. “Right now, we currently are speaking with companies about supplying them with the water,” Ms Davis said.

The water is sold in two sizes, a case of 12 one-litre bottles for $32, or a case of 24 half-litre bottles for $36. Delivery is free.

“We try to keep the retail price to a minimum so it can be affordable for people,” she added.

The water is now being sold at Rubis in Flatts, East End Variety and Jamaican Grill on Court Street.
