P-Tech relocates as Phoenix Centre expands
Consumer electronics store P-Tech relocates across Reid Street today to make room for an expansion of the Phoenix Centre.
P-Tech will move into a site on the corner of Reid Street and Queen Street.
The space it vacates will be used by its sister business, The Phoenix Centre, to expand its drugstore and introduce new products.
The move is of some historical significance to the business, said George Grundmuller, chief executive officer of The Phoenix Stores Ltd.
“Ironically, P-Tech moved to the same space The Phoenix Drug Store opened its doors in 1902,” Mr Grundmuller said. “I guess one can say we’ve returned to our roots.”
He said the P-Tech move was driven primarily by the desire to expand The Phoenix Centre.
“Some new products will include natural medicines, home healthcare, bath safety, personal care and mobility safety items targeting the ageing population in Bermuda such as canes, crutches, walkers, lifting seats and transport chairs,” Mr Grundmuller said.
The store also plans to expand its selection of hemp-based products containing cannabidiol.
“We plan to triple our CBD product selection, while our cosmetic area will double in size with many new brands,” Mr Grundmuller said.
“We will add a perfume section, increase our gift sets and giftable products, double the seasonal product section and expand the hair care section with a particular focus on ethnic hair care.
“The entire store will receive a makeover with new shelving, signage and checkout counters similar to our concept store in Warwick.”
He added that the new location for P-Tech offered greater visibility.
“Equal in size to its old location, the new P-Tech is much brighter with excellent traffic flow on the corner,” Mr Grundmuller said. “After performing several traffic counts, we understand the new site is one of the highest traffic corners in Hamilton — thousands of people come around that corner every day.
P-Tech is an authorised dealer for many brands including Bose, Sony, GoPro, Canon, Samsung, Apple, Hewlett-Packard and Lenovo.
P-Tech opened in its previous space at 5 Reid Street, in 2006.
