GameTime Hamilton closes down
The Hamilton location of bookmakers GameTime has closed.
Customers arriving at the betting shop in The Emporium building on Front Street are met with a sign on the door that reads: “All GameTime Hamilton customers may now place their wages (sic) at Seahorses. Somerset and St George’s locations are open.”
Albert Steede, a former teacher and Bermuda cricket captain, is the owner of both GameTime and Seahorses.
Seahorses, purchased by Mr Steede in 2016 and refurbished, is a long-established bookmaker located in the Mechanics Building on the corner of Queen Street and Church Street. Customers enter through a door on Queen Street.
Bermuda Mechanics Beneficial Association, landlords for the building, have filed an application in the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court to evict Seahorses Ltd from that location due to non-payment of rent. The application, filed May 6, has yet to be heard by the Court.
The GameTime Hamilton location opened in 2009. Mr Steede opened a second shop on Water Street in St George in September 2015, and two months later opened a third location on Somerset Road, Sandys Parish.
Mr Steede is away from the island. Efforts to reach him yesterday were unsuccessful.
