Butterfield Bank group chief financial officer Michael Schrum has been named a winner in the 2019 Finance Monthly CFO Awards.

The UK-based multi-platform global publication provides news, comment and analysis on the corporate sector, and is distributed to more than 195,000 people monthly.

The awards are given to inspiring financial leaders across a wide range of business sectors around the globe who continuously deliver outstanding results for their respective organisations and whose hard work, innovation and vision is worthy of recognition, Butterfield said.

Mr Schrum said: “It’s an honour to receive the Finance Monthly CFO award and to be recognised by my peers in the financial services industry. I am delighted to be a part of a growing organisation and to play a role in furthering our mission to be the world’s leading, independent offshore bank and trust company.”

He added: “I’m extremely proud to work with a consummate team of finance professionals.”

As group CFO, Butterfield said Mr Schrum is responsible for strategically positioning Butterfield with the investment community, enhancing the financial reporting environment, and managing the capital resourcing and corporate development functions for the bank, which now spans ten international jurisdictions.

Mr Schrum joined Butterfield in September 2015, bringing with him more than 20 years of financial services experience in London, New York and Bermuda.

Butterfield said Mr Schrum has been instrumental in the bank’s initial public offering in the United States in 2016 and the successful follow-on offering, which transformed the ownership structure of the Butterfield Group from private equity to that of a diversely held public company traded on the New York Stock Exchange.

More recently, Butterfield said, his expertise contributed to the bank’s acquisition of ABN AMRO’s Channel Islands-based banking subsidiary and its subsequent integration into Butterfield’s existing Guernsey banking operation.
