New vehicle servicing firm specialises in electric cars

A new vehicle servicing and repairs business has opened in Pembroke.

Current Works specialises in electric and hybrid vehicles, but also conducts standard vehicle maintenance and repairs.

The business is co-owned by electric rental car pioneers Current Vehicles, and by Darrel Mellor, a City and Guilds qualified industry professional with more than 20 years’ experience in the field.

Mr Mellor, who is general manager of Current Works, is certified as a level four electric/hybrid vehicle technician, and has also received certifications from Renault, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Jeep, Kia and Citroen.

He is joined on staff by Cardel Henry, who has some 17 years’ experience as a certified automotive mechanic.

Piers Carr, founder and chief executive officer of Current Vehicles, said the new business was a natural progression given that the rental car outfit had invested in the equipment necessary to keeps its fleet serviced.

He said: “We over-hired when we brought Darrel on board. From the moment we started talking, we decided that our journey was bigger than just our fleet of vehicles, and that we would open up to the general public as well.

“We saw a transition over to electric vehicles in the next few years, so it made sense to establish ourselves at the forefront of the transition from a servicing and maintenance standpoint.

“We look to lead the way from the electric vehicle servicing standpoint.”

Mr Carr added: “We had the space – we have a sizeable warehouse – and we had the equipment, so it made sense to broaden what we do and open up a commercial garage as well.”

He said the business officially launched this month after a soft opening at the end of 2020.

Mr Carr added: “Our focus is on servicing and repairs made simple, and we do that through the use of technology.

“We have an easy booking platform on our website, and our communication channels are e-mail and text so that we constantly keep the customer updated about how their vehicle is progressing, about any issues we have identified, and provide estimates throughout the process so that there are no surprises on the bill.

“We use technology to provide transparency and cost-effectiveness.”

Customers are provided with free use of a Twizy while work is being conducted on their vehicle, Mr Carr added.

Current Works is located at 7 Mill Creek Road, Pembroke, next to FedEx. For more details, see the website at www.currentworks.bm. The business also has Facebook and Instagram pages.
