Rocket Pitch! 2021 launched Global Entrepreneurship week
Top cash prizes of $5,000 were just part of the attraction for the finalists of the 14th annual Rocket Pitch Competition, who pitched their businesses last Tuesday before panels of judges for a chance at some of the $42,000 in cash and services.
That was just the start of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation’s 2021 Global Entrepreneurship Week.
Seventeen entrepreneur-minded applicants pitched their ideas under the stars at Bacardi Ltd.
Attendees and judges were presented with business ideas ranging from a babysitting app to jewellery utilising lionfish fins.
The Rocket Pitch Competition has already helped to launch or expand more than 40 businesses.
The People’s Choice award was chosen via a live poll where a total of 413 people voted including viewers in attendance, and those watching a live stream of the programme.
This award was sponsored in part by Hamilton Princess and Cosmic with the winner taking home a champagne brunch for two at Crown & Anchor and a logo design and marketing package.
Gavin Carter, of Gavin’s Butter, was the crowd favourite, receiving 29 per cent of the vote and taking home the coveted prize. Several other exciting events rounded out the week.
They included the BEDC Business Awards on Saturday, November 13; the Women Entrepreneurship Day Brunch on Sunday, November 14, in preparation for the annual conference taking place on Friday, November 19, starting at 9am.
Finally, the Department of Economic Development Department will host the TechAwards and Reverse Pitch.
