Arts Centre props up sales with Mall pop-up gallery
A popular West End art gallery is taking up residence in Hamilton for the holidays.
The Bermuda Arts Centre at Dockyard is opening a pop-up gallery tomorrow on the lower level of Washington Mall, next to Harbourmaster.
The venue will remain open until December 24.
Gallery administrator Heidi Cowen said: “We came up with the idea to have a pop-up gallery in Hamilton during the month of December due to our downturn of sales, not just for the quieter months but struggling through the past two years.
“The final decision was made when the looming dead winter months ahead appeared on the doorstep.”
She added: “Often 'all the way to Dockyard' becomes a one-off destination, and we are hoping that with a more central location we stand a chance to showcase what the Bermuda Arts Centre is all about, and that is solely supporting local artists in all media.”
Ms Cowen said the Hamilton pop-up will be filled with art in all sizes, prices and media, as well as jewellery, mixed media and locally made crafts.
She added: “If it's not created in Bermuda, we won't carry it.”
Ms Cowen said the Arts Centre hosts 132 artist members, adding: “We will be showcasing a little of everyone at the gallery.
“The gallery will be manned by our volunteer artists, who will be demonstrating their media, enabling visitors to not only shop but gain artistic interaction as well.”
The pop-up gallery will be open from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am until 3.30pm.
It will stay open for late-night shopping on Fridays until 8pm.
The Bermuda Arts Centre at Royal Naval Dockyard will remain open daily from 11am until 4pm.
