Tuesday sessions to learn about fintech
Bermudians seeking to learn more about the emerging fintech sector — or wishing to work in the industry — are encouraged to attend a special educational session on Tuesday.
Fintech and Digital Asset Education Day will be held from noon until 4pm.
The event is also designed to prepare audience members for the third annual International Tech Summit in Bermuda, which includes formal sessions the next day.
The hybrid education event will be presented in person at Connectech in Sofia House on Church Street in Hamilton, and via Zoom.
Capacity at Connectech is limited and registration is free.
The education session is being presented by Penrose Partners, a Canadian and Bermudian blockchain advisory firm, in partnership with Government’s economic development department.
Presenters Kerem Kolcuoglu and Sean Stapley of Penrose will cover a range of topics including stablecoins, digital payments, non-fungible tokens, custody, insurance, and bitcoins.
Mr Kolcuoglu, managing partner at Penrose, said the organisation has already made presentations to a range of public and private sector workers on the island.
He said: “Now, we are opening it up to the greater community so that everyone has an opportunity to consume this content, this knowledge, so that they have a better understanding of why this industry can be very important to Bermuda’s economic development.
“We see it as a good opportunity to warm things up and get some background knowledge. fintech, blockchain and digital assets are complicated topics.”
Mr Kolcuoglu said the “fun, engaging” course content is equivalent to a university lecture.
He added that the session is the first step in local training to prepare people to work in the fintech industry.
