Workshops for young entrepreneurs
Ignite Bermuda is to run its second Young Adult Entrepreneurial Internship programme this summer.
The seven-week initiative operates from May 31 until July 21.
The programme, through funding and support from HSBC Group and HSBC Bank Bermuda, aims to offer 20 local young adults, aged 18 to 25, first-hand entrepreneurial experience with some of Bermuda’s top start-ups from the Ignite Bermuda accelerator programme.
Successful applicants will gain hands-on work experience with these local entrepreneurial leaders, attend workshops led by industry experts, and have the opportunity to work on independent projects in the Ignite Hub with the support of programme mentors.
A stipend for the internship will be provided for project hours completed at their designated host business or organisation, with an additional time commitment for educational workshops as part of the programme.
Abby Brewer, founder of Sew Brew and a 2021 Ignite intern said: "I have become a much more confident person, much more open-minded and ready to take action.
“I definitely have more faith in myself and my abilities in terms of believing that I can succeed as an entrepreneur. It also vastly improved my ability to network with others."
Zayne Sinclair, an Ignite 2021 intern and founder of Sinclair’s Seed Sowing added: “I am more driven to achieve my goals and go through the hardships that are ahead.
“I’m no longer scared to make mistakes. I understand it’s all a part of the journey.
“Every day is an opportunity to work on myself and sharpen my skills."
The 2021 pilot internship programme proved to be a great success with 100 per cent of interns reporting that they “agreed” or “strongly agreed” that they had a better understanding of entrepreneurship as a result of participating.
All interns said they would recommend the programme to their peers and 35 per cent of them continued to work with their host business/organisation or received job opportunities as a direct result of the programme.
Applications for the programme will be accepted until Friday, April 29 at 5pm.
