New marketers bring a sharper image

There is no shortage of start-up media and marketing companies in Bermuda.

Many are small, boutique operations that try to succeed on small client lists.

But few start-ups can show they can wow clients here and abroad with proof of concept.

Marooned Media is a start-up, full-service photography/videography company that focuses on content creation and social media strategy.

But one of the earliest success stories was at an exotic eco-lodge in Bocas Del Toro, Panama.

The marketing for La Loma Jungle Lodge and Chocolate Farm website says: “Accessible only by boat, La Loma sits in the heart of the Isla Bastimentos rainforest on a 55-acre property stretching from the mangrove shores of the Bahia Honda Bay, through tropical forest and groves of fruit trees, to the highest point on Isla Bastimentos, allowing for breathtaking vistas of the jungle and bay. Lush, nectar-rich gardens attract a wide variety of unique wildlife.”

It borders the spectacular National Marine Park, and to get to the beach from the resort, you need another boat ride.

Adam Johnson and Christian Adair are the Marooned Media team, but early on Adam trained his camera on life deep in the jungle while in Panama shooting for the eco-lodge.

He said: “The lodge recently underwent a change of ownership and the new owners wanted to highlight important aspects of what they offer to their guests. I created a series of short videos that focused on the lodge and the unique experiences that are on offer to the guests.

“A portion of the food served at the lodge comes from the on-site permaculture jungle farm. I filmed the daily harvest in order to help guests understand the connection between the farm and the restaurant.”

Adam and Christian have also worked with local businesses, such as Akilah Beckles Yoga and Pilates and Andrew Leavey and his Solterra Landscaping. Both clients have been really happy with the investments they made.

Akilah Beckles is a yoga and pilates Instructor. She said: “I considered booking [Marooned] as an investment in my business. I was quietly teaching people I knew but wanted to have a launch of my teaching services in the form of a video announcing it.

“I recalled the video that [Marooned] made in 2021 during whale season and knew that’s who I wanted to work with. As I was announcing my business, I knew the video would pay for itself once a couple of bookings were made. I released the video to my own social media channels and immediately had inquiries and bookings.

“It was meaningful to me that the production portrayed me in an authentic light so that potential clients had an idea of my energy and the kind of teacher I was.

“The video had a far reach, without me spending a single penny to sponsor the post. I attribute the level of organic reach on social media to the quality and level of authenticity of the video.“

Meanwhile, Andrew Leavey said: “In October of 2020 I started a landscape company called Solterra Landscape & Design Ltd which handles all aspects of landscaping from stone walls, brick driveways, gardens and general maintenance. I wanted to be able to share the types of projects we were working on to the public but I had very little knowledge in marketing and advertising.

“I decided to reach out to Marooned Media having known both Adam and Christian through mutual friends and family. I basically let the guys take the lead on opening up a professional social media account on both Facebook and Instagram.

“They visited some of my ongoing and completed projects to take photos, videos and even some drone footage and then shared some ideas on how they were planning to use them.

“You can't always fully appreciate a new driveway or a soft landscape installation just by seeing it from the road, sometimes it helps to see things from above or with a video to show the details you wouldn't be able to see in passing.

“Since making the decision to use Marooned Media for my social media platforms, I can confidently say that my business clientele grew exponentially and I owe it all to them.”
