Isaiah Cabral wins Deloitte scholarship
Isaiah Cabral has been awarded the 2022 Deloitte Scholarship.
The professional services firm said the award offers up to $30,000 per year for a term that is typically two years.
Deloitte said it supports two students each year with a total scholarship value of up to $50,000.
The scholarship is available to Bermudians or PRC holders pursuing an undergraduate degree who have an interest in accounting, actuarial, financial advisory, risk advisory, or other business-related studies.
Mr Cabral in August will enter his first year at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, where he’ll pursue a bachelor’s degree in accounting.
As a postgraduate, he will work towards his CPA designation, with the support of Deloitte Bermuda.
Mr Cabral said: “I’m very thankful to Deloitte Bermuda for awarding me this scholarship and allowing me to continue my education at my dream school.
“With the help of Deloitte, I’m one step closer to achieving my goal of becoming a chartered accountant.
“I’m also grateful to the scholarship committee for recognising my longstanding commitment to academics.”
After interviewing an impressive group of candidates, the Deloitte scholarship committee said, it selected Mr Cabral due to his remarkable academic achievements, commitment to his future studies, and determination to succeed as a chartered accountant.
He recently graduated from Bermuda College with a double major in actuarial science and business administration, focusing on accounting.
Mr Cabral received awards for outstanding accounting student, most outstanding actuarial science graduate and overall most outstanding division of arts and science graduate.
Next year, he will join Deloitte as a summer intern.
During his time there, he will begin the Deloitte Exclusive Experience Programme as an audit & assurance intern.
The 10-week programme will give Mr Cabral first-hand experience in accounting, auditing, operational risk, and more, the firm said.
It added that he will also learn from like-minded professionals, and contribute to project deliverables for Deloitte Bermuda clients.
Jarita Vickers, director of finance, said: "We are pleased to present Isaiah with our 2022 Deloitte Scholarship Award.
“Isaiah embodies the essence of hard work and determination. His maturity and understanding of doing what is ultimately best for him are impressive.
“We congratulate Isaiah on his accomplishments to date and wish him continued success as he begins this next phase of his academic journey."
Deloitte said it will hold a summer student networking event on July 18.
