Investors unite on digital platform
The island’s first fully digital platform that brings together qualified individual investors and entrepreneurs has launched.
Bermuda Investor Community Limited held a gala kick-off at The Cloud at The Waterfront restaurant on Tuesday that brought more than 60 qualified investors together with entrepreneurs presenting a range of opportunities to invest in the island.
Organisers said businesses that launched their capital raises at the event included edutech, insurtech, property and social media businesses seeking capital in amounts ranging from $7,500 to more than $2 million.
While some of the businesses were graduates of Ignite, the island’s first privately funded, charitable entrepreneurial accelerator, others had no affiliation, taking advantage of the fact that the platform is open to all — provided they contribute to the Bermuda economy.
As a sister company of Ignite, the Bermuda Investor Community operates as a social enterprise and recycles all of its profits into the Ignite programme, in the hope of creating a self-sustaining ecosystem for entrepreneurial businesses in Bermuda.
Caroline McGill, executive chairwoman of the Bermuda Investor Community, said: “We are delighted by the positive response we have had from the community — including potential investors and entrepreneurs.
“We hope to see many more register on our platform in the coming days and weeks.
“This is the first experience many of our entrepreneurs have had of raising capital, and we could not support them to the extent that we have without our fantastic group of volunteers, as well as the support we have received from the Bermuda business community in providing their partnership and sponsorship.”
