Tech start-up wins Lenovo recognition
From a small “one-stop-shop” to an award-winning regional partner, MobileTech Ltd has won recognition from tech partner Lenovo, the American-Chinese multinational technology company.
Long-time friends Robert Swainson and Kevin DaCosta started MobileTech as a two-man IT consulting company working out of their homes and expanded into a retail store on Euclid Avenue in 2015.
Mr DaCosta said: “MobileTech Ltd started with just me and Robbie back in January of 2013.
“Today, there are six of us, which allows us to focus more on valued partners like Lenovo. It has allowed us to specialise in their portfolio of products with special bid purchasing and enables us to provide support for their products.”
A major Lenovo partner and service centre on the island, MobileTech Ltd is authorised to carry out Lenovo warranties locally, without the need to export the equipment overseas for repair.
They are also able to sell Lenovo products with extended warranties and accident protection.
Mr Swainson said: “Lenovo took a chance with MobileTech Ltd as we were a very small company. Two guys doing a start-up and trying to attain a partnership with a major brand took some convincing on our part.
“As a partner MobileTech Ltd is a Lenovo-certified warranty repair centre, and fully-backed by them.”
MobileTech won Lenovo’s Outstanding Performance Award in 2020 and most recently Lenovo awarded them the Top Partner Award for the Latin America and Caribbean region in 2022.
Mr DaCosta said: “It was at the Lenovo Accelerate 2022 conference in Las Vegas. I was not prepared at all for Bermuda to be listed within the Top 10 for our CAC region.
“To be fair, I wasn’t really dressed for the occasion and when the presenter was describing the partner for this award, I started to say, “Hey, is he talking about us?”
It was confirmed moments later when the Lenovo presenter said: “Kevin from MobileTech Ltd, come on up here and claim your award.”
“A crowd of my peers turned applauding,” he recalls. “It’s a moment I will always remember. I felt the same way when Lenovo authorised MobileTech Ltd as their Bermuda partner back in 2016. A big thank you to all our clients, as this was not possible without their support.”
