Bermudian feminine product set to go global
The first Bermudian feminine healthcare line to hit the shelves now has a growing international presence.
Bermudian entrepreneur Gayneté Jones launched “Best, Periodt.”, a female-engineered menstrual cup, in January of last year at eight retail outlets on the island.
The first US-based retailer, South Philly Co-op, was added four months later.
But now, the product – gynecologist recommended, FDA registered, USA made, medical-grade silicone cup – is available in 130 outlets in the United States, 17 in Bermuda – and even one in Kuwait.
The big boost occurred this month when American regional supermarket chain Wegmans began stocking the product in 104 stores in New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina.
The cups are also available at a variety of smaller retailers in Texas, Maine, California and Louisiana as well as at walmart.com and amazon.com.
Ms Jones said: “I always say ‘dream big, and do bigger’. From the very beginning, my goal was to make this as big as it can be.
“I want Best, Periodt to be a household name. It isn’t there as yet, but it’s going to be.”
Ms Jones added: “I don’t like to talk about numbers, but we have moved thousands of units.
“We are speaking to much larger retailers as well, who are interested in the product. 2023 should be a very exciting year for us.”
Ms Jones said Wegmans began to show interest in the product in February of this year.
The product was offered at a few Wegmans outlets in July, but went chain-wide this month.
Leap Loves Green, an online retailer in Kuwait City, approached Ms Jones after finding Best, Periodt on Instagram.
She said: “It is selling well in Kuwait, which is really exciting.”
The high-quality cups are made of medical grade silicone. Available in two sizes, they are manufactured at a facility in the United States.
Ms Jones said the product’s fulfilment centres have been ready for explosive growth from the very beginning.
But she added: “A lot of planning on the back end goes in to scaling to larger retail. You have to manufacture not only enough to cover the first order, but subsequent orders as well.”
New products are on the horizon for the company.
In October, it will begin selling cases for the cups, and will roll out “many more” products next year, Ms Jones said.
She added that the first new product will be out by Q1 2023.
Ms Jones said: “I am really pumped about that one.”
