Clocktower Mall fends off petty criminals
Clocktower Mall retailers in the Royal Naval Dockyard are hoping that petty thieves don’t rob them of their best returns in three years.
The mall has returned to robust activity from two years of poor cruise ship tourism, but must come to grips with the rise in petty crime.
Many shops in the mall are reportedly recording healthy sales, a much-needed boost after losing money for two years.
Unfortunately, retailers say there seems to be a higher incidence of “sometimes quite brazen” shoplifting going on.
It also comes as the Clocktower Mall is being highlighted in Trip Advisor with updated, positive reviews from this summer.
Meanwhile, the Bermuda Triangle shop moves to the renovated wing of the mall, after 15 years in the far end, and now occupying space that is about a third larger than before.
Owner, Claire Smith, said her new location was previously occupied by AS Coopers shop in the wing of the Mall often referred to as ‘Front Street’.
“It was a bit crowded before and we look forward to introducing some new lines and merchandise going forward,” she said.
“Recently we received a shipment of Bermuda Trader clothing, a successful local brand that has been dressing locals in quality rayon for almost 35 years. We have also received a shipment of Indian sterling silver and some jewellery from Europe.
“The hit of the season is a bracelet with either a turtle, shark or elephant on it and the purchaser can download an app which tracks your animal so you can support various wildlife organisations and follow your animals path.”
