One of the planned events for the Joshua Bate Trading Company’s 30th anniversary celebrations is the distribution of a Dame Flora Duffy Tote Bag on Tuesday — the anniversary of the one-off Flora Duffy Day holiday.

The special-edition bags, with a design credit to local graphic designer Makayla Paul, will stand as an enduring tribute to the Bermudian triathlete’s gold-medal performance at the 2020 Olympic Games, and benefit her charity, The Flora Fund.

The company said: “Because Bate Trading is the exclusive distributor in Bermuda for Sea Bags, a US company which hand-crafts tote bags and accessories from recycled sails, they decided to collaborate.

“Along with Flora’s team, a colourful and sustainable tote bag was designed to commemorate Flora’s historic win, which has been produced in a limited quantity.

“Only 225 Flora Duffy Totes have been constructed. 50 come with a sewn-in patch of a quote by Flora, which she personally signed.

“The signed bags will sell for $350 and the rest of the bags will sell for $300. The net proceeds of all sales will be donated to The Flora Fund.

Joshua Bate, president of Bate Trading, commented: “We are grateful for Bermuda’s support of our business for 30 years and we are proud to help Flora in her effort to positively impact the youth of Bermuda.”

While the totes can be pre-ordered from the company on Marsh Lane in Devonshire through Saturday, they only become available for purchase on Tuesday, the anniversary of Flora Duffy Day.
