As the new assistant commissioner for investigations, Christopher Moulder will be instrumental in protecting the public from harm, the Privacy Commissioner said today.

Mr Moulder will have varied responsibilities including case management, policy development, complaints, concerns, audits, investigations, inquiries and order making.

“His work will help ensure that our office’s oversight is proactive and constructive, and not merely punishing non-compliance,” Alexander White, the Privacy Commissioner, said.

The Privacy Commissioner’s mandate is to regulate the use of personal information by organisations in a manner recognising both the need to protect the rights of individuals in relation to their personal information and the need for organisations to use personal information for legitimate purposes, among other duties.

Mr Moulder hoped the investigations unit would be used by both individuals and organisations to work towards acceptable resolutions.

“However, I believe it is important to provide the public with reassurance that under Pipa we will have the power to order and enforce protection of their rights,” he said.

Mr Moulder has worked in a range of arenas, from personal banking and commercial contracts to debt recovery and labour relations.

“He brings a wealth of experience in case management and the implementation of process-driven compliance,” an office spokesman said.

Mr Moulder is a graduate of Southampton Solent University, where he achieved a Bachelor of Laws degree, and most recently worked with the Bermuda Government’s Labour Relations Department.
