Bermuda encouraged to embrace Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday: empower local businesses by shopping online (Photograph supplied)

The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation is calling for retailers and shoppers alike to participate in Cyber Monday.

“This year we anticipate and encourage the participation of a larger-than-ever group of vendors and a wider range of offerings, on both the products and services sides,” the BEDC’s Jamillah Lodge said.

“I’d like to encourage both the vendors and the community to partake of this opportunity to take advantage of exclusive deals and to support each other as the Island looks beyond the pandemic. Buy, sell, tag and post — and who knows what you might win!”

Cyber Monday is an online initiative to encourage residents to shop locally and support the development of local e-commerce business in Bermuda.

The BEDC, in partnership with the economic development department, is calling for Bermuda to shop online and #ChooseBermuda on Monday. All participating shoppers and consumers have to do is #BuyBermuda online by shopping on one or more of the many websites listed in the BEDC’s e-tailers directory.

Today, the BEDC is still looking for more local businesses with online goods and services to offer a discount for 24 hours, as part of the programme.

“Let the local market know you are selling what they want,” a BEDC spokesman said.

“Sign up to be promoted on the official Cyber Monday website where shoppers will find discounts and specials being offered by participating businesses.”

The e-tailer who makes the most individual sales during Cyber Monday will win $500.

To enjoy the benefits of Cyber Monday and qualify for the $500 voucher, participating businesses must accept orders online or orders online with the ability to provide full online payments. They will also have to offer one or more discounts or promotions on Cyber Monday. Additionally, they must use social media tools such as Facebook or Instagram to direct vendors to their sites prior to Cyber Monday, using the #BuyBermuda hashtag in their promotions.

Ms Lodge said the BEDC sees Cyber Monday as an opportunity to utilise technology to power the local economy.

“If Global Entrepreneurship Week has shown us anything, it’s that entrepreneurs continue to stir creativity and to inspire innovation in many ways,” she said.

Consumers can #ChooseBermuda online on Monday for a chance to win prizes.

To enter a draw for one of three $250 vouchers for participating e-tail outlets, shoppers must upload their receipts or payment confirmations to the BEDC’s online form. All receipts will be entered into the draw and winners will be announced on December 5. Only transactions dated November 28 will be considered for the draw.
