RISCAP Holdings Ltd, a sister company to MoonGate Group Ltd., has acquired the family medical practice of Dr Constance Richards.

The transaction concluded in June 2022 and the practice has recently been rebranded as MoonGate Medical.

Leon L. Bascome, MoonGate CEO, said: “We went through a very rigorous and extensive process ensuring that our systems and people comply with the extremely high standards set by the authorities.

“These included the Bermuda Medical Doctors Association, Bermuda Health Council and the Bermuda Government.

“It is gratifying to know that we are certified as fit and proper to continue with and develop the practice and serve the community.”

MoonGate has contacted all clients to reassure them Dr Richards will continue to practice medicine and be a part of the medical team, along with medical assistants Lisa Hardy and Eureeka Minors.

MoonGate Medical has already expanded and is also taking the opportunity to introduce two physicians: Dr Caren Griffith-Fadlin, MBBS, MPH and Dr Andrea Claire Gilford Johnson, MBBS.

The acquisition of the medical practice comes in MoonGate’s tenth anniversary year of offering HealthGap, a supplemental benefit which boosts basic insurance plans such as HIP and Future Care.

Mr. Bascome continued: “There is no conflict of interest, as we are not a primary health insurer; we provide a supplement for services outside of the hospital, such as air ambulance and other healthcare services.

“The decision for the group to diversify into primary care wasn’t taken lightly; we recognise the tremendous work which is already being done in this space.

“MoonGate Medical’s focus is on early detection, chronic disease management and avoidance of late-stage diseases.

“We will look to introduce technology for patients which will empower them to make decisions on their health and address items such as alcohol/smoking consumption, bad nutrition and lack of exercise.

“Bermuda’s statistics are frightening; collectively, we need to encourage and enable people to visit their doctors earlier, which can reduce costs and strain on the system down the line.

“The challenge is how we can provide incentives and make it more affordable for our community to do so: I’m sure many are working on that and we will, as well.

“At MoonGate Medical, we want people to know their numbers – this is our goal.”

Dr Griffith-Fadlin received her medical degree from the University of the West Indies, Jamaica, in 2006.

After completing her studies, she continued training at the University Hospital of the West Indies in the areas of Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

She did additional training in Psychiatry at the University Hospital of the West Indies and in Primary Care at the Ministry of Health, Jamaica.

She went on to complete her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, in 2018.

Dr Gilford Johnson, graduated from the University of Guyana in November 2000 with a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery.

She also has a Diploma in Medical Technology (with distinction), specialising in hematology.

She also has certifications in the American Heart Association basic and advanced life support programme.

Dr Gilford Johnson joined MoonGate Medical in January 2023 from Bermuda Medical Specialties Group (BMSG).

Prior to that, she was at the British Virgin Islands’ Dr Orlando Smith Hospital as Medical Registrar.
