CHW grows law practice with new appointments
Cox Hallett Wilkinson has appointed three new attorneys to its growing firm.
Tariq Mahmood has joined the litigation team as counsel, Fiona Bada has joined the corporate team as counsel and Helen McIntosh has rejoined the firm’s private client team as a senior associate.
Craig Rothwell, the head of litigation and a director of CHW, said the new appointments are welcome additions as the firm seeks to expand and strengthen the services it provides to clients in the areas of litigation, corporate and private client.
The firm said Dr Mahmood is an English-qualified practising barrister specialising in commercial litigation, chancery and arbitration. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has been appointed on numerous panels worldwide. He has served as counsel, arbitrator and mediator conducting both institutional and ad hoc arbitrations, and has conducted numerous mediations.
He has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial litigation and arbitration, lectures frequently on dispute resolution and has been appointed a visiting professor at the University of Hull and honorary lecturer at the University of Keele.
Mr Rothwell said: “Tariq’s expertise will certainly enhance the commercial litigation team with his experience in cross-border disputes and enforcement of arbitration judgments from other jurisdictions.”
The firm said Ms Bada, with almost 30 years of legal experience, previously worked in the corporate departments of law firms in the British Virgin Islands and Bermuda, often holding positions of leadership, and has sat on boards of numerous public and private companies.
She is a practising member of the Bermuda Bar, as well as those of the British Virgin Islands and Antigua and Barbuda, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. She was recently appointed to the Bermuda Human Rights Tribunal.
Ms Bada said: “I am excited to join a Bermuda practice with an enviable history and provenance on the island and I am looking forward to developing existing and new practice areas at the firm.”
Janice Gutteridge, a director in the corporate department, said: “Fiona brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the corporate team, particularly in the area of investment funds and investment business.”
The firm said Ms McIntosh is an experienced attorney, specialising in wills, trusts and estates. She is a Scottish and English-qualified solicitor and a member of the Bermuda Bar.
She has experience in both private practice and British banks, advising high-net-worth individuals on inheritance tax and estate-planning issues.
Ms McIntosh, who worked in the private client team at CHW from 2007 until 2016, holds Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners advanced certificates in trust disputes and cross-border disputes.
Lorren Wilson, the head of private client, said: “We are excited that Helen has returned to CHW. Her international trust and estate-planning experience will benefit local and international clients of the firm in tackling the often sensitive and difficult decisions involved in estate planning.”
