The founder of tech education firm, The TLC Group, believes the compliance deadline for Bermuda’s Personal Information Protection Act will signal new employment opportunities in data privacy and cybersecurity.

Chief executive Taheera Lovell said the landmark date of January 1, 2025 signifies a monumental step forward for individuals, as they will finally have comprehensive data protection legislation to rally behind and work towards.

With the implementation of Pipa, organisations across the island are expected to improve their privacy and security standards significantly.

“The TLC Group is excited about the positive impact this will have on the job market, creating a range of employment opportunities,” Ms Lovell said.

She said as organisations strive to meet Pipa compliance requirements, the demand for skilled professionals, such as privacy officers and cybersecurity officers, is expected to surge.

The TLC Group, has already trained over 130 individuals to serve as privacy officers, and will welcome the next cohort of certified privacy officers from its upcoming course starting on Monday.

“We are delighted about the Pipa compliance deadline and the potential it holds for job creation in the data privacy and cybersecurity sector,” Ms Lovell said. “Becoming a certified privacy officer not only opens doors to exciting career opportunities but also showcases a commitment to upholding the highest standards of data protection.”

The TLC Group offers a comprehensive training programme, equipping individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in privacy and security industries. The certification options include Privacy & Security Champion, Privacy Lead, and Privacy Officer, which provide a strong foundation for individuals seeking to enter or advance in the field of data privacy and security.

“The TLC Group is committed to helping build a workforce of data privacy and cybersecurity superheroes,” she added. “By training individuals to become privacy officers and promoting the importance of data protection across the island, we aim to raise the standard of data privacy practices and safeguard the interests of individuals and organisations alike.”
