Sancho Smith chosen to receive the KPMG 2023 Scholarship
KPMG in Bermuda has chosen Sancho Smith to receive the KPMG 2023 Scholarship after what the firm says was a “rigorous selection process”.
A spokeswoman said: “Sancho received the award because he represents the firm’s values of excellence, courage and integrity.
“It is truly inspiring to witness such a high level of dedication and passion among the next generation of future leaders in the financial services industry.”
The scholarship award is a key aspect to the firm’s Lift Off Programme, helping Bermudian university students complete either their undergraduate or postgraduate degree in an accounting or business-related subject.
The scholarship is valued at $20,000 per annum for a total of up to three years.
In addition to a financial award, Mr Smith will receive guaranteed placement as a summer intern, mentorship opportunities, and full-time employment upon the completion of his degree.
Mr Smith said: “I am grateful for the 2023 KPMG Scholarship which has allowed me to pursue my studies in business administration at Clayton State University.
“The stress of competing in the classroom and on the track, along with the financial burdens, can be overwhelming for a student-athlete in track and field.
“Despite these challenges, these experiences have helped me grow and become more passionate about my work. Being recognised by KPMG inspires me to continue pursuing my goals and honing in on my skills.
“To further add, I am thrilled to pursue my master's degree and become a certified public accountant with the support of KPMG.
“Receiving this scholarship is a great honour for my career in accounting and finance."
Steve Woodward, partner and chairman of the Lift Off Programme, said: "On behalf of KPMG, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to Sancho, a deserving recipient of our scholarship award.
“Sancho is an exceptional individual who has proven himself to embody KPMG’s core values.
“We firmly believe that he will thrive in our dynamic and collaborative work environment, where he will have the opportunity to develop his skills and contribute to the growth of our firm."
The firm said the KPMG in Bermuda scholarship programme aims to foster a culture of excellence, integrity, and teamwork, while nurturing future leaders in the industry.
By investing in the education and development of students pursuing a career in financial services, KPMG in Bermuda said it continues to demonstrate its commitment to building a strong and sustainable talent pipeline.
