Zyon Minors has been named recipient of the 2023 Polaris Holding Company Ltd Education Award, for the second consecutive year.

Zyon, the daughter of Otis Minors, a dedicated twenty-one-year veteran at Polaris subsidiary, Stevedoring Services Limited, has been recognised for her academic consistency and commitment to higher education.

Zyon Minors, a student at the University of North Carolina Greensboro, is pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She previously received the PHCLEA in 2022 and has successfully renewed the award for a second year.

The PHCLEA is presented annually to eligible children of Polaris Holding Company Ltd employees including those at Polaris, Stevedoring Services Limited and East End Asphalt Company Limited.

The $2,500 cash award provides financial support for tuition, room and board, or airfare as needed to support higher education goals. Recipients of the award may receive a maximum of four awards during their educational journey.

Cheryl Hayward-Chew, Polaris’ chairwoman, presented the cash award to the recipient’s father, long-serving dock-worker, Otis Minors, as his daughter was unavailable for the presentation.

Mrs Hayward-Chew expressed her appreciation for the hardworking employees of Polaris, stating: “The men and women of Polaris are the engine that drives our organisation and this programme is a tangible way for us to show we care about what matters to them – their families. I am delighted that the Polaris education award aligns with our mantra ‘to do the right thing at the right time for the right reasons’.”

Otis Minors, expressed his gratitude for the award: “My family and I are truly appreciative of Zyon’s second education award. We are thankful not only for the financial boost it provides for Zyon’s nursing studies today but also for the college funding we have benefited from over the years, through past education awards to her brother."
