Etteleon Burchall selected for BF&M John Wight Scholarship
Etteleon Burchall has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 BF&M Post Graduate John Wight Scholarship.
The company said the scholarship would support her pursuit of a master of science degree in global health policy at the University of London.
BF&M said Ms Burchall’s academic journey had been marked by determination, resilience, and a commitment to making a meaningful impact on healthcare systems.
She graduated with a GPA of 3.41 from Spelman College in 2020, with her bachelor’s degree in science.
“I believe a degree in global health policy coupled with the characteristics that I once imagined would make an excellent doctor – tenacious problem solver, excellent communicator, pragmatic and analytical mind, and my desire to help others – will make for an even better health policy analyst,” said Ms Burchall.
The company said Ms Burchall had valuable experience from roles such as the Department of Health and the Pandemic Response Unit in 2021.
It added that her passion for healthcare transformation had driven her to pursue a path as a health policy analyst.
Recognising the critical gaps and challenges exposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, she aspires to bridge those gaps through evidence-based policies and legislation.
Her goal is to propose and advocate for policies that reduce healthcare disparities and ensure that health remains a fundamental human right.
Stephanie Hanson, EVP, group chief operating officer at BF&M, said: “On behalf of the scholarship committee, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Etteleon Burchall.
“Out of 61 applicants, Etteleon stood out for her resilience and unwavering commitment to improve the health of Bermuda’s population.
“We are proud to support her future aspiration to give back to her community and look forward to seeing the positive impact she will have. Best of luck on your journey, Etteleon!”
The company said the BF&M post graduate scholarship aimed to empower exceptional individuals such as Ms Burchall to make a difference in their chosen fields and contribute to positive change.
Mr Wight is the former group chairman and CEO of BF&M Limited.
