Jeb Bush, the former US presidential candidate and former Florida governor (1999–2007), is the high profile keynote speaker at The World Federation of Exchanges 62nd General Assembly and Annual Meeting later this month at the Hamilton Princess & Beach Club.

Hosted by the Bermuda Stock Exchange from September 19 to 21, the event is the WFE’s annual flagship conference where leaders of global exchanges, regulatory authorities, the buy-side, industry experts from academia and the media gather for in-depth discussions on major issues surrounding the exchange industry.

It is attended by the C-suite level of their members, and the meeting will encompass a variety of panels on topics from crypto to settlement timings.

Journalists from around the world have been invited to attend, with most attending virtually.

David Burt, the Premier and Minister of Finance, will lead the Bermuda delegation.

Speakers include Edward T. Tilly, chairman and chief executive, Cboe Global Markets, and chairman, The World Federation of Exchanges; Nandini Sukumar, the WFE’s CEO; and, Gregory Wojciechowski, president and CEO, Bermuda Stock Exchange.

John Ellis Bush, the 68 year old Texan, sought the Republican Party nomination for president in 2016. His GOP roots run deep.

His paternal grandfather, Prescott Bush, was a US senator, and both his father and elder brother – George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush, respectively — served as President of the United States.

The WFE is the global association for exchanges and central counterparty clearing houses.

It represents more than 250 exchanges and clearing houses globally, educating stakeholders on the vital role played by market infrastructures in the real economy and as a standard setter, finding the consensus on issues among the global membership.

Of its members, 35 per cent are in Asia-Pacific, 45 per cent in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and 20 per cent in the Americas.

WFE exchanges are home to 47,919 listed companies, with a market capitalisation of over $109 trillion. Around $137 trillion in trading annually passes through WFE members (at end 2020).

WFE’s 57 members collectively ensure that risk takers post some $800bn (equivalent) of resources to back their positions, in the form of initial margin and default fund requirements.
