Appleby marks 25th year of support for Star charity
Law firm Appleby has marked its 25th year of holiday season support for local charity Star — supportive therapy for persons with Aids and their families.
The firm said it has been supporting Star during the holidays since 1998, supporting six families with food hampers, fruit baskets and gifts, with gift certificates this year for 30 family members.
Brad Adderley, Appleby Bermuda managing partner, said: “Star has been doing important work in the community for almost 40 years.
“We wish all the families the very best during the holiday season and in the new year.
“Thank you to our very own Calvin Steede, the master co-ordinator of our holiday giving and to the others at Appleby that help to bring some holiday cheer to our Star families.”
Carolyn Armstrong, the executive director and founding member of Star, added: “Thank you Appleby for your continued support over so many years, and special thank you to Calvin for his dedication and support not just during the holiday season but during other times of the year for bringing cheer to our Star families.”
Star has remained a constant source of support to persons with HIV and their families, providing comprehensive assistance since 1986.
Star’s work has benefited more than 170 people at its Light House facility, which aims to provide a family environment for residents, including men, women and children.
In addition, Star offers support throughout the island to persons living with HIV by way of confidential counselling and personal caregivers visiting homes, the hospital and hospices.
