Sophia Greaves promoted to top post at law firm Conyers
Law firm Conyers has promoted Sophia Greaves to the position of Head of Insurance and Reinsurance within the firm’s Bermuda corporate practice.
In this role, Ms Greaves will lead the Insurance and Reinsurance practice, leveraging her experience and expertise to drive the continued success of this key practice area, the firm said.
She joined Conyers in 2010 as an associate and became a director in 2016.
Before joining the firm, Ms Greaves practised as an insurance lawyer in both London and Hong Kong.
A spokeswoman for Conyers said: “Sophia’s wealth of knowledge includes specialising in securitisations, mergers and acquisitions and (insurance and reinsurance) transactions.
“In particular, she advises on the formation, licensing and ongoing regulatory requirements for Bermuda captives and commercial insurers. Sophia has demonstrated a track record of excellence having established a broad client base spanning a number of insurers and insurance groups.”
Marcello Ausenda, Director and Head of the Bermuda corporate practice, said: “We are delighted to announce Sophia’s promotion as the new head of the Bermuda Insurance and Reinsurance practice.
“Sophia is a generational talent – she is a market leading lawyer, who has earned the confidence and trust of her clients and colleagues alike.
“As a natural leader, there is no better person to take the helm of our leading insurance practice at this exciting time.
“Sophia is a most worthy successor to Charles Collis, who has been instrumental in building the jurisdiction’s largest and leading insurance and reinsurance practice.”
Ms Greaves said: “I am honoured to take on the role of Head of Insurance and Reinsurance at Conyers.
“We have a talented, deep bench of lawyers in our team who have been recognised as leading individuals in the insurance industry across areas of expertise.
“I am excited for us to build on our strengths as a team as we aim to continue to provide effective, commercial solutions for our clients.”
The firm said Ms Greaves has been recognised by pre-eminent legal directories including Chambers and Partners, Legal 500 and IFLR 1000.
She is committed to supporting young Bermudian lawyers and serves as the chairwoman of the firm’s Legal Education Award committee and is actively involved in the firm’s recruitment initiatives.
As the first female lawyer in her new role, Conyers added, Ms Greaves is a role model to women in law and in the insurance industry.
A spokeswoman added: “The Insurance and Reinsurance team will also continue to benefit from the counsel of Charles Collis who has, over the last 30-plus years, made a significant contribution to the Bermuda insurance industry.”
