TBi offers new IPTV service
TeleBermuda International Ltd, the carrier of international long-distance voice, data, internet, and co-location hosting services, has launched an IPTV service offering a television alternative, which subscribers can access using an Amazon Fire TV or Fire Stick.
The company website said it is offering an upgrade to their World on Wireless customers with an all-digital platform that provides the “same packages, same prices, awesome quality”.
The service is being offered through the TBi-TV app that can be downloaded through the app store.
TBi is a local “Class-A” carrier of international long-distance voice, internet and IPTV services, which last year bought out WoW, the provider of high-definition television subscription services.
Nick Faries, TBi’s interim managing director, said in October that the company was launching new services in 2024, when he commented on the layoff of five employees, and said they were retaining a core team to support the future endeavours.
He said TBi was optimistic about its future and believed the layoffs were necessary “to solidify its foundation and prepare for growth in new areas”.
Mr Faries added at the time: “The company’s primary focus is on the continual delivery of top-tier services to its clients and partners.”
Addressing WoW customers, a statement on the company website says: “We are pleased to announce a major upgrade to your current TV service.
“Have no fear! You can keep the same package you have at the same price. But, get ready to experience another level of quality picture and sound, all with a super easy interface.”
It adds: “If you don’t have a fire stick and would like one for your upgrade, stop by our retail store and talk to our friendly staff. We also have set-top boxes available, if needed.”
But customers who choose to pick up a fire stick or set top box, must first contact the company and then wait to hear back as to when the item can be collected at the retail store in the Washington Mall.
TBi has been a local telecommunications provider for more than 25 years, with subsea network capacity.
The TBi network delivers customers and carrier partners complete network redundancy to international gateways, connecting Bermuda with international cable landing stations in Fortaleza, Brazil; Maiquetia, Venezuela; Boca Raton, Florida; and Tuckerton, New Jersey.
TBi’s telecommunication, network access, and managed IT services are delivered and maintained by its Technical Operations Centre, located in St David’s.
