Veritas Group appoints US attorney to board
Bermudian-based Veritas Group has appointed corporate lawyer Asael T. Sorensen to its board of directors.
In a letter to shareholders filed with the Bermuda Stock Exchange, company CFO Alfred S Minors wrote: “As a dedicated small business attorney, Ace Sorensen provides highly rated services to small and large-sized businesses that have both simple and complex legal and financial needs.”
Later, he added: “The board expects Mr Sorensen will provide the expertise and experience to carry out the vision of the VGL Group of Companies. Join us in welcoming him.”
The letter said Mr Sorensen had been practising law for more than 40 years, having been admitted to the Utah State Bar in 1982.
He attended Brigham Young University, where he received degrees in economics, law and business administration.
Mr Minors wrote that Mr Sorensen had more than 30 years of entrepreneurial and business management experience, and had negotiated and managed multimillion-dollar national and international supply and service contracts for clients.
He has also lectured throughout the US on the subject of contract law for the American Management Association.
In 1995, Mr Sorensen joined Covol Technologies, now known as Headwaters, an environmental remediation and alternative fuel company.
In his role as vice-president, general counsel and secretary, he helped manage the negotiation of construction and operating contracts for the production of alternative fuels for use in electrical power plants.
He assisted with taking Covol Technologies public on Nasdaq and also served as chief lobbyist to the US House and Senate in Washington, securing broad bipartisan support for alternative fuels legislation, Mr Minors wrote.
He has subsequently been in private practice and served as in-house counsel for various public and private enterprises, the filing said.
Veritas produces organic nano-fertiliser to increase food production, and the technology to convert bio waste to energy.
The company provides services for farmers to clear up agricultural residue, process the waste and residue and create income-producing commodities: bio electricity; bio gas; terra preta soil; activated charcoal and carbon credits.
