Cookie company celebrates five years in business
Free cookies were the order of the day yesterday to mark a major milestone in the life of a local company.
Ahmani’s Cookie Company set up a stall to hand out the baked goods outside City Hall to celebrate its fifth anniversary.
The company was originally started as a way of helping Ahmani, who is on the autism spectrum, and now supplies its products to 18 different businesses in Bermuda, including BermudAir, and more than 40 overseas.
His father, Anthony Peets, said: “Ahmani’s was established in February 19, 2019, when he was 16. So February 19 celebrates five years.
“This is his business. This is his livelihood. This is how he’s going to survive. Mum and Dad aren’t going to be around for ever so we wanted to make sure that we found a way for him to experience success.
“About 90 per cent of the children with autism do not have a career path. Ahmani is super brilliant. He’s super smart. He’s got his driver's licence and he delivers all over the island.”
He added: “We are doing TikTok lives right now. Why are we doing that? Just to be able to inspire the people around the world.
“A lot of young people use that platform and Ahmani has been able to make connections with bakers around the world. One baker was watching him and said, ‘you know in the 90 minutes that I’ve watched you, you outperform my entire team’.”
