Employers face health and safety filing deadline
Employers have until Friday to submit an annual report of the number of accidents, dangerous occurrences and injuries that occurred at the workplace during the calendar year.
The Government has reminded them that the Occupational Safety and Health Regulations 2009 require every employer to file the compliance form.
The online form must be completed fully. If no incidents have occurred, employers must place a zero in the appropriate boxes.
The Employer’s Annual Report of Accidents, Occupational Illnesses & Dangerous Occurrence form must reach the Occupational Safety and Health Office at osho@gov.bm no later than March 1.
The OSHR 30 data helps to determine areas of highest risk in local businesses, enabling targeted inspections and education activities to ensure efficient use of resources.
The government portal notes: “All workplaces — indoor and outdoor — in Bermuda are monitored for safety and health concerns. All employers must have a committee to review safety and health issues. Environmental health officers investigate complaints or major accidents, where there is a need.
All operations involving substances particularly hazardous to health — such as asbestos, pesticides, poisons and fumigants — normally require a permit.
Additionally, the Occupational Safety and Health unit of Environmental Health monitors these operations to ensure that accepted levels of exposure are not exceeded.
