Entrepreneurship 101 kicks off again
One of the Bermuda Economic Development Corporation’s most popular courses launches again this month.
Designed for business newbies, Entrepreneurship 101 offers the basics of small business management and creating a business plan.
Over the span of eight weeks, participants will learn what is required to start a business in Bermuda. The syllabus includes guest experts and testimonies from entrepreneurs.
Learning objectives include understanding Bermuda’s legislation, establishing business and government contacts, and building a budget, among other things.
Facilitator Donte Hunt said the class was one of their oldest.
“I have been here for five years and it was in operation when I came,” said Mr Hunt who is director of micro small and medium enterprises at the BEDC.
He said that the Entrepreneurship 101 married well its Think Like An Entrepreneur class.
“That one is about business mindset while this one is more practical,” he said.
They are aimed at the same demographic, people who are just starting out in entrepreneurship or who are looking at starting a business.
It was hard for him to judge how many people who took the course went on to create successful businesses.
“We do not really track that,” he said. “I would hazard a guess that about 50 per cent of participants start a business in a year or two.”
Entrepreneurship 101 is being held on the first floor of Sophia House at 48 Church Street.
“It is in-person rather than virtual, by design,” Mr Hunt said. “It has two major value points. The first value is content and knowledge. The second one is networking, which is huge.”
