Boat and marine sales up nearly 500%
Sales for boat and marine supplies shot up in November by 491.4 per cent, according to the latest Retail Sales Index figures.
Apparel also saw modest improvement, with the volume of sales increasing by 4.8 per cent, and the value of sales growing by 3.2 per cent.
The news was not as positive for most other sectors.
Retail sales experienced 1.2 per cent drop in sales volume, but a 1.5 per cent increase in value at $104.8 million, compared to November of the previous year.
Motor vehicle sales lost much of the gains they made the previous month, with the number of vehicles sold down by 14.1 per cent, and the value decreased by 12.9 per cent.
This came after motor vehicle dealers saw a 21.1 per cent increase in volume in October 2023.
The amount of food selling fell by 2.2 per cent, but the value increased by 1.3 per cent, attributed to the 3.1 per cent rise in the cost of food.
Liquor sales also dropped by 6.4 per cent, and its sales value decreased by 3.2 per cent.
During this period, the sales volume for all other types of stores increased by 2.6 per cent, and went up by 6.0 per cent in value terms.
