Exactly 94 years ago, scientists William Beebe and Otis Barton were lowered into the sea in a 4ft by 4ft iron sphere called a bathysphere.

They were the first people to see the deep ocean and live to talk about it.

This month, local retailer The Authentic Bermuda Shorts company, known as TABS, is remembering their historic dives, with bathysphere-inspired swim trunks and towels.

The pattern of deep ocean sea creatures was created by artist Graham Foster, famous for his detailed murals and vibrant storytelling through art.

Company founder Rebecca Singleton said: “His collaboration with TABS brings his exceptional vision to life in a wearable piece that captures the spirit of ocean exploration.”

In honour of World Ocean Day, a portion of proceeds from the bathysphere swim trunks will be donated to the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, promoting marine research and education.

The bathing suit bottoms are for men and children and are made from recycled materials.
