Renovation and transformation: the former Parks Department headquarters in the Botanical Gardens is being renovated as an innovative art space (Photograph by Akil Simmons)

An island engineering company is donating its time to help the renovation of the former parks department headquarters that will become a new centre for art excellence.

In February, Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, the Minister of Public Works, joined Masterworks executive director Risa Hunter to announce a collaboration between the Government and Masterworks to revitalise the Grade 3 listed building.

The initiative will see the building, which has been closed for years, become a second location for Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art.

iEPC Limited has conducted a visual inspection and identified key areas of concern for the building that will soon be developed into Bermuda's first Art and Design Centre.

Ms Hunter said a derelict building from 1898 was being reshaped and repositioned as a cultural nexus for the park.

Mr Graham-Ward, iEPC senior engineer and team leader, said: “As part of the ReGen Group we are always seeking opportunities to give back to the community in which we operate.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Masterworks Foundation by providing our engineering expertise at no cost to assist in the renovation and transformation of this historic building that will serve and enhance Bermuda’s artistic and cultural community.”
