Former Lufthansa aircraft buyer becomes BermudAir president
Nico Buchholz has been appointed president and deputy chief executive of boutique airline BermudAir, the company announced today.
He brings more than 30 years of experience and expertise as an aerospace C-suite executive in firms across North America and Europe.
BermudAir founder and CEO Adam Scott said: “There is no doubt that the significant technical expertise and deep business development insights he brings will be invaluable as the company moves forward from start-up to the next phase of our evolution.”
Mr Buchholz, who will take up the post next month, said he was honoured to support and guide the BermudAir team on their growth path.
“Having seen the deep motivation and individual competencies within the team, we are well placed to continue the success and development of BermudAir,” he said.
Mr Buchholz’s skill set covers areas such as technical developments for new aviation products, as well as network planning, operations, technical customer support, contract negotiations, strategy, communications, sales and marketing and procurement.
“He is recognised for providing an unbiased analytical approach to initiatives while engaging and mobilising global operational teams,” BermudAir said in a statement.
Born in Hamburg, Germany, Mr Buchholz began his aviation career in companies such as Rolls-Royce Deutschland, where he handled all commercial activities as well as customer support and communication for civil and military products.
He also ran the entire fleet management for all airlines in the Lufthansa group. As executive vice-president and Lufthansa’s aircraft buyer, he shaped the development of the group’s fleets for 15 years.
Being at the forefront of innovative fleet restructuring, modernisation and environmental impact initiatives throughout his career, he has led sales, purchasing and leasing deals for more than 1,000 aircraft.
“We are very fortunate to have Nico’s commitment to BermudAir, breadth of aerospace expertise and leadership knowledge at this stage of our strategic and operational development,” Mr Scott added. “We look forward to working with him.”
