Budding lawyer Malcolm Hendrickson wins scholarship
Aspiring Bermudian lawyer Malcolm Hendrickson has been awarded the Carey Olsen Investing in People scholarship for 2024.
The scholarship was established four years ago to provide exceptional Bermudian law students with the opportunity to obtain a Commonwealth qualification overseas, before returning home to join the Bermuda Bar.
Malcolm recently completed his undergraduate degree in critical criminology at Brock University, Ontario, and will begin his masters in law next month at BPP University, London.
He hopes to return to Bermuda for work after graduation.
He said: “When I was told I had won, I was in shock. I felt like my hard work was being recognised and all the sleepless nights were worth it.
“The best part is that I am helping my family by making it easier for them to pay for my schooling. Words cannot describe how impactful this award is for my family and I, and I am so grateful for the opportunities that it will provide me.”
Bradley Houlston, a member of Carey Olsen Bermuda’s bursary committee, said: “Congratulations to Malcolm for being chosen as this year's recipient of our Investing in People Award.
“All the candidates we met this year were excellent but Malcolm stood out as being an extremely dedicated, resilient and organised individual.
“We are sure he will make a success of his chosen career in law and are delighted to support him on his journey.”
Winners are selected by the bursary committee based on academic records, extracurricular achievements, career aspirations and need.
The scheme includes work experience opportunities during breaks from university and an invitation to join the firm’s pupillage programme.
