The pathway to leadership for Tahjae Welch
The newest MarketPlace store manager is Tahjae Welch, who joined the company out of high school in 2016 at an entry-level position.
Mr Welch credits company training for his growing skills, knowledge and confidence in leadership roles.
The store manager at The MarketPlace's A1 Paget location started as a merchandiser and cashier, working his way through various roles across the company's stores, including PriceRite and the Dollar stores, where he gained valuable experience in store operations.
"The most important lesson I learnt early on was about proper inventory management and customer service," Mr Welch said. "As you move up the ladder, you have to be increasingly mindful of how you interact with both customers and associates, because more eyes are on you and your customer service standards need to keep elevating."
In 2020, he joined the Pathways to Leadership programme, a turning point in his career as he learnt from experienced mentors, during his time as Grocery Department lead and assistant manager.
Seth Stutzman, president of The MarketPlace, said: "Tahjae exemplifies what we love to see in our young Bermudian talent – dedication, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to grow.
“His journey from entry level to store manager demonstrates that with hard work and a positive can-do attitude, there are real opportunities for career advancement right here in Bermuda."
Vernon Hassell, vice-president of Purchasing and Procurement, added: "Watching Tahjae's progression through our organisation has been incredibly rewarding. He has embraced every challenge, shown remarkable leadership potential and consistently delivered results.“
Mr Welch is looking forward to further management promotion and believes The MarketPlace offers opportunities for those prepared to seize them.
