BEDC promotes EEZ enterprises with shopping initiative
The Bermuda Economic Development Corporation has launched its “Eat, Shop, Play” draw, encouraging shopping in Bermuda’s Economic Empowerment Zones.
The BEDC said the initiative invites the public to explore and support businesses in the EEZs, including Somerset, North East Hamilton, South East Hamilton, and St George’s.
By spending $20 or more at any participating business, shoppers will have the chance to win $500, $300, or $200 gift vouchers to spend at their favourite participating locations.
The “Eat, Shop, Play” initiative, which runs until January 6, was said to be designed to encourage the community to think beyond the usual shopping districts and discover the vibrant businesses in the EEZs.
The BEDC hopes that promoting these areas will drive economic activity, foster community connections, and reignite interest in businesses that are often overlooked.
Donte Hunt, director of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise at the BEDC, highlights the programme’s impact, noting: “Eat, Shop, Play encourages everyone to experience the unique and diverse businesses in our EEZs. This initiative supports local entrepreneurs, strengthens community ties, and helps create opportunities for sustainable growth in these areas.”
Participating merchants don’t just get added commerce. The business where the grand prize winner shops will receive an additional $500 voucher, further supporting the entrepreneurs who make these areas special.
Ondreyah Rochester and Dennis Carter, MSME officers for Somerset and St George’s, respectively, say the programme has meaningful impact, showcasing the rich variety of businesses within the EEZs.
Patrons spend $20 or more at any participating business located in the EEZs, upload a photo or confirmation of the receipt using the online form available on the BEDC website.
Each receipt is an entry, and Shop to Win Draw winners will be announced on January 13.
