Bermuda has celebrated a milestone in workforce development as 34 Bermudians proudly graduated from the Foundations in Artificial Intelligence training programme at Bermuda College.

This transformative initiative, spearheaded by the Bermuda Clarity Institute in partnership with Bermuda College and supported by the Bermuda Government, has demonstrated that the island is not just keeping pace with global innovation but leading the way in creating a more inclusive and future-ready labour force.

The programme, designed to demystify AI and provide practical skills for its real-world application, is a critical step in preparing Bermuda’s workforce for the technological shifts reshaping industries worldwide. From financial services to tourism, AI is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of business and Bermuda is ensuring its people have the skills to thrive in this evolving landscape.

The Foundations in AI programme is no ordinary course. Designed to be both accessible and impactful, the curriculum blended technical expertise with practical application over 15 hours of in-person course work held during evening sessions over five weeks. Graduates were introduced to core AI concepts, generative AI tools, prompt engineering, marketing, finance and analytics powered by AI, while at the same time exploring real-world applications for these technologies.

What set the programme apart was its emphasis on relevance. Participants did not just learn theory – they explored how AI can solve real problems in industries ranging from healthcare to financial services. The course also tackled ethical considerations, ensuring graduates are not only skilled but also thoughtful stewards of AI’s power.

This was not about creating coders or engineers – it was about equipping professionals across all sectors with the confidence to integrate AI into their work and unlock its potential.

A standout feature of the programme was its commitment to inclusivity. With financial support from the Bermuda Government’s grant programme at the college, barriers to participation were removed, ensuring anyone with a desire to learn could enrol. Bermuda College went a step further by providing computers for participants who needed them, eliminating access challenges and underscoring the island’s commitment to equal opportunity.

This dedication was reflected in the diversity of the graduating class, which included young professionals, mid-career workers seeking a pivot, and even retirees ready to engage with the digital economy.

“I was intimidated by AI at first,” shared one graduate. “But this programme made it clear and approachable. Now, I feel ready to use these skills in my career and community.”

Another participant added: “I never thought I could afford a programme like this. Thanks to the grant, I gained skills that will help me compete in today’s world.”

This success was made possible by the collaboration between the Bermuda Clarity Institute, Bermuda College and the Bermuda Government.

The Bermuda Clarity Institute contributed cutting-edge insights, designing a curriculum tailored to Bermuda’s needs. Bermuda College brought it to life with top-tier instruction and an empowering learning environment.

The Bermuda Government’s support ensured the programme was accessible to all, creating a model for how public-private partnerships can uplift communities.

By removing financial and technological barriers, this partnership has set a global example of how to build an inclusive workforce.

Bermuda’s proactive approach to upskilling its population is already paying dividends. For employers, these graduates represent a pool of talent bringing fresh perspectives and AI capabilities to their teams. For the island as a whole, this programme positions Bermuda as a leader in workforce development and innovation on the global stage.

AI is no longer a distant concept or a luxury for larger economies – it’s a vital tool. By empowering its workforce with the knowledge and confidence to engage with AI, Bermuda is sending a powerful message: this island values its people and is ready to embrace the future.

As Bermuda celebrates these 34 graduates, the question is: what’s next? The Foundations in AI programme is just the beginning. With its reputation for driving workforce transformation, Bermuda is well positioned to expand training opportunities.

The momentum is clear and the partnerships forged through this initiative demonstrate what can be achieved when education, government and industry align. As one graduate put it: “This programme didn’t just teach us about AI – it gave us the confidence to face the future head-on.”

In a rapidly changing world, that confidence may be Bermuda’s greatest asset.
