The English Market opens second store in St George
Bermuda’s newest supermarket has opened for business in St George.
The English Market, which opened an outlet in the Washington Mall in Hamilton in 2021, is now also doing business from a space at the Esso petrol station on Rose Hill in the Olde Towne.
The supermarket, which opened today, covers 1,200 square feet.
Owner Fabio Iannone said: “It was a lot of work to set up and put everything together, but it’s finally done. It’s beautiful, and ready to go.”
He added: “People were very happy. They came, they looked around, and said they liked the set-up, the prices, and that everything was positive.”
Mr Iannone, who made a delivery of meat to the new store at 10.30am, said: “People were waiting for us, to buy the meat.”
The St George location features the full range of items available at the Washington Mall shop, but on a smaller scale. It also features a hot buffet lunch.
Earlier, Mr Iannone told The Royal Gazette that the idea to establish a new store came after he saw that the Hamilton store was widely popular with a large number of customers from the island’s East End.
Mr Iannone said he was pleased that customers reacted enthusiastically to news of the East End location.
“Lots of people were very happy about the store coming up. Everybody was excited — they were coming every day to ask when it would open.”
