Inflation in September fell to 1.8%
Inflation eased slightly to 1.8 per cent in September according to the latest Consumer Price Index figures released by the Ministry of Economy and Labour.
However, there were large rises in some key areas in the figures compiled by the Department of Statistics.
A spokesman said: “In summary, consumers paid 1.8 per cent more in September 2024 than they did a year ago for the basket of goods and services included in the Consumer Price Index.
“This level of inflation decreased 0.5 percentage points from the August 2024 annual inflation rate.”
Key highlights for September 2023 to September 2024 include a 7.2 per cent rise in fuel and power, and a 3.3 per cent increase in health and personal care.
Other areas include:
• The rent division increased 2 per cent
• The food division increased 3.1 per cent
• The education, recreation, entertainment and reading division increased 2 per cent
In terms of the monthly rise between August and September, the average cost of goods and services increased 0.1 per cent.
Between August and September:
• The rent division increased 0.5 per cent
• The education, recreation, entertainment and reading division rose 0.6 per cent
• The household goods, services and supplies division was unchanged
• The fuel and power division was unchanged
The September 2024 annual percentage change of 1.8 per cent is the lowest Consumer Price Index rate posted by the government in at least two years.
