Michael Cann: MarketPlace excellence
Produce director Michael Cann stars in a brief YouTube video put out by the MarketPlace to highlight career opportunities at the firm.
The firm’s president, Seth Stutzman said Mr Cann exemplified what it meant to lead with passion and purpose.
“His dedication to delivering the highest quality produce and his commitment to the team make him an invaluable part of our leadership,” Mr Stutzman said. “We are incredibly proud of his accomplishments and look forward to his continued contributions to our success.”
Mr Cann began at the grocery store chain in 2016 as a cashier and merchandiser, and worked his way up through the ranks, becoming director of produce last year.
He now oversees produce operations across 11 stores, and manages a team of 35 people.
He called the MarketPlace a meritocracy, saying: “Put in the work, go the extra mile, and the sky’s the limit.”
A spokesman for the firm said Mr Cann has transformed the produce department into a hub of freshness and quality.
Before joining the MarketPlace team, Mr Cann worked at Cambridge Beaches for four years and as a Corporal in the Royal Bermuda Regiment.
He moved to the company with the initial goal of saving funds to explore opportunities abroad, but quickly found a passion for the retail industry and recognised the potential for growth within the company.
“I strive to inspire my team to embrace a collective vision and work together to achieve it,” he said. “My guiding principles are fairness, consistency, and respect – for both staff and customers.”
