Bermuda Paediatric Centre opens
The Bermuda Paediatric Centre has opened under the leadership of paediatric specialist doctors, Richard Fulton and Sylvanus Nawab.
They will operate the practice from the former Edgewood Paediatrics on Richmond Road in Pembroke before eventually moving to new premises.
Edgewood was founded by Peter Perinchief and his late wife Ann, a paediatric nurse, in 1981.
A spokeswoman for the BPC said it is a community-centred paediatric care provider for Bermuda, providing a comprehensive range of healthcare services focused on nurturing, family-centred, and accessible care for children and youth.
Dr Perinchief, who will serve as an adviser, said: “I am delighted to see this important, necessary development in healthcare offered to children, youth and their families.
“Drs Fulton and Nawab, along with paediatric nurse Bernadette Wilson, have worked with me for over a decade at Edgewood Paediatrics and they will continue to offer knowledgeable care that is strengthened with international paediatric specialists and relevant healthcare collaborators.
“The Bermuda Pediatric Centre will provide families with a multidimensional approach to healthcare that is unprecedented in Bermuda.”
BPC said it will function as a central hub for the paediatric community, emphasising preventive developmental support and wellness while coordinating with specialised paediatric services.
The new practice will utilise electronic health records to enhance documentation and communication, allowing families online access to their child’s healthcare profile.
Understanding that care is a continuous journey, BPC said it will monitor key performance indicators, conduct regular assessments, and engage in quality improvement initiatives to ensure optimal patient care, outcomes, and satisfaction throughout each developmental stage.
The BPC said it is dedicated to ongoing education and training for its staff and collaborative healthcare providers to remain informed about the latest best practices and advancements in paediatric care.
The BPC added that it will provide educational support programmes for families and engage in philanthropic initiatives to benefit related non-profit organisations in the community.
The BPC said its vision is to advance and expand paediatric specialised services to meet the needs of each child and every family in Bermuda.
The practice will provide a comprehensive range of services, including primary care, preventive care, urgent care, neonatal care and acute care.
The BPC said it will continue to engage overseas partners established by Edgewood such as Boston Children’s Hospital, University of Toronto Sick Kids Hospital, Nemours Children’s Health (Orlando and Delaware), and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
